About

Caroline La Porta

Caroline has been creating costumes and accessories since she was a child, spurred by a creative nature, a father who loved science fiction, a mother who loved costume dramas, and a family history which included Edwardian milliners. She studied theatre in college and went on to earn her MFA in Costume Design from Carnegie Mellon University.

Caroline's career has spanned as many genre as theatre has to offer: from college, to regional, to Off-Broadway, to Broadway, and of course summer stock; she has worked with costumes for dance (most recently with the Radio City Rockettes and as Lead Draper for the New York City Ballet), modern straight plays, musicals of all stripes (including work on Broadway favorites Hamilton and The Lion King), and Disney on Ice, among other tours. Outside of theatre, she has done work for Beyonce and Marc Jacobs, CBS Sports, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and White Castle, as well as film and television work. She is a proud member of IATSE local 764, the New York City wardrobe union.

Caroline La Porta While Caroline is mainly a tailor/draper, working in so many fields of entertainment has built a skill set ranging far beyond simply patterning and sewing. She is excellent at alterations and repairs (particularly of fragile, vintage, and highly ill-fitting garments), laundry, and costume organization, and has experience with costume crafts, distressing, shoes, armor, dyeing, jewelry, and milinery. In addition to these costuming skills, she is experienced in knitting and crochet (her pandemic sweater count was 8!), makes chain maile jewelry and accessories, and is a certified kickboxing instructor for the Tiger Schulmann organization (and is extremely close to earning her Black Belt). Besides kickboxing, she also worked for several years teaching in and maintaining a top-10 college costume shop.

When Caroline is not working for high-profile groups, she loves to take commissons from anyone who wants a stunningly tailored garment or one of a kind, bespoke costume sure to be the star of any party or convention. Contact her for more information about making your dream come true.
